11 Reasons Why Everyone Should Switch To Ayurvedic Diet

It is said that, “Our food should be our medicine and our medicine should be our food”. The single most important and simplest thing you can do for your health every day of the year is to eat wisely. Food is just as, or even more, powerful than medicine.

If you eat junk all the time and do not follow good eating habits, medicine won’t be of much use in recouping health. On the other hand, if you eat healthy and follow a good routine that enhances digestion, your body will not need medicine for the most part.

Here are 11 reasons why everyone should switch to an Ayurveda diet:

1) It’s All About Eating Fresh

Suppose you eat a watermelon which is bright red, fresh and crisp, the amount of satisfaction and health benefits it provide will be more as compared to a soft and wilted watermelon.

First off, it’ll taste bad and second, it’s not going to do anything great for your health. Food that is stale starts going bad not just outside its packaging, but also inside your body, releasing toxins into the digestive system which are then absorbed by your other bodily systems.

Bad quality foods such as canned, processed, spoilt, refrigerated and genetically modified foods, alcohol, tobacco and narcotics are known as tamasic foods or those that create resistance to the mind-body’s normal course of action.

These foods should be completely avoided at some stage of life as they cause physical and mental dysfunction over short and long terms.

2.) What You Should Eat Is Based On Your Body

There are three body types according to the Ayurveda. Those types are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Vata is rules circulation and body functions. Pitta which controls digestion and metabolic systems. And Kapha which helps with the immune system.

Although we all have all three of these most of the time we all have a dominate one. This means we are either mainly controlled by the vata, pitta or kapha. What we want to have is a good balance of all three of these. That is why eating certain foods helps promote balance in each of these areas.

For instance people who want to better balance their pitta dosha would eat more apples and lemons. Someone wanting to better balance their vata would incorporate more bananas into their diet.

And someone wanting to better balance their kapha dosha would incorporate more carrots or avocado.

3) Give your digestive system a break

According to ayurveda, the build-up of ama — digestive toxins — in the physiology is the basic cause of most diseases. That’s why ayurveda recommends internal cleansing at every change of seasons for optimal health. Detoxing is particularly recommended in the early spring, because that is the time nature starts its process of rejuvenation.

Regular detox gets rid of accumulated junk from inside the body and revs up the digestion for another season.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol and carbonated soft drinks and switch to life-giving, energy-boosters beverages this year. Begin with water, that most basic yet most overlooked drink — sipping water plentifully throughout while wetting the lips rekindles your system and flush toxins out of the body.

Water purified by heat of fire in it. Don’t drink water ice-cold — if you have a hot disposition, drink it cool; otherwise, room-temperature or warm water is best.
