Telecom Player Airtel might Shortly launch a budget Smartphone priced at Rupees 2500/- The telecom major will have a direct shot at competition from Reliance Jio with this new smartphone. Few days ago Reliance unveiled the JioPhone which is priced at Rs 1,500; a sum which could be refunded after a period of 3 years.
A report in The Economic Times claims that the device from Airtel will likely launch before Diwali this season. As per report, “Airtel is talking with some handset makers to bring in a smartphone around Rs 2500, which will have a larger screen, superior camera and better battery performance than what a feature phone could offer,” a senior industry executive aware of Airtel’s plans said.
The smartphone is anticipated to operate on Android operating system in which the users will have the ability to download the majority of the applications available on the Google Play Store. The operating system inside this 4G smartphone will even follow neutrality norms.
If Airtel manages to pull this offer until Diwali or announce the launching of this device before JioPhone goes on sale next month, the Jio might face a hard competition as the buyers just need to pay an extra amount of Rs 1,000 and in turn will have a 4G smartphone instead of a 4G featured phone.
Following the launching of JioPhone others telecom players like Idea-Vodafone came up with a idea to launch a smartphone in a price of Rs 2,500.
